Day-to-day Care

We recommend that you store your jewelry in a safe place when engaging in household and outdoor chores (cleaning, gardening, etc.), and when engaging in certain activities (sports, swimming, etc.) to prevent it from being knocked or from coming into contact with harmful products that could damage its surface.

To preserve the luster of your jewelry avoid exposing your jewellery to the following:

High temperatures (Such as prolonged sun exposure)
Perfumes and Cosmetics (It is best to wait until completely dry before wearing your jewellery)
Household bleach, soap and chemicals
Water (fresh, chlorinated or salty)
We advise you to remove your jewellery when washing your hands.

Cleaning

Routine home care of fine jewellery supplemented with periodic professional care means a lifetime of pleasurable wear. Most jewels can be cleaned to intensify their sparkle: gently scrub them with a very soft bristle brush dipped into soapy water, then carefully rinse them and delicately dry them with a soft, non-lint cloth. Attention, this cleaning procedure is not advised for pearls, emeralds, amber, jade, lapis lazuli, opal or turquoise. Depending on their properties, certain materials require special care. Explanations and precautions are detailed below. If you have any doubts about the state of your jewellery, we advise you to stop wearing it and welcome you to bring your Gilan jewellery instore for professional cleaning.

Storing

When not worn, each jewel should be put away separately, to prevent stones and metals from being rub against or scratched. We recommend you keep your Gilan jewelry in its original case for protection. When storing your chain necklace or bracelet, always make sure to fasten the jewellery first to prevent knots.

Special Stone Care

To prevent damage to your white, yellow or rose gold jewellery, we recommend you store it safely away from other pieces to avoid unnecessary scratches. Gold should be kept away from harsh chemicals, such as cleaning and beauty products, to avoid discolouration to the metal. When they are dull or scratched, gold and platinum jewels can be re-polished: this will restore their original sparkle. White gold must also be applied a new coat of rhodium to bring back its color and shine.

Diamonds

Diamond is the most sparkling and hardest of all minerals, which means that it can scratch other materials. Therefore, we advise you to store your diamond pieces separately. Diamonds attract greasy substances easily, which dulls their sparkle. Diamonds can be easily cleaned using a small amount of liquid soap in hot water and dried using a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt and grease to bring back its shine. This cleaning technique can not be applied on rose-cut diamonds.

Mother-of-pearl

Diamond is the most sparkling and hardest of all minerals, which means that it can scratch other materials. Therefore, we advise you to store your diamon pieces separately. Diamonds attract greasy substances easily, which dulls their sparkle. Diamonds can be easily cleaned using a small amount of liquid soap in hot water and dried using a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt and grease to bring back its shine. Derived from sea shells, the mother-of-pearl is remarkable for its lustrous shine and delicate iridescent reflections. Since mother-of-pearl is a naturally soft substance, small scratches can appear on its surface. It is not enhanced by contact with water, because a gradual absorption effect can occur. Clean mother-of-pearl delicately using a soft dry cloth. If worn often, pearls should be cleaned and restrung professionally once a year.

Emeralds

Emeralds are infamous for their history and their deep luscious green colour is one that cannot be matched by another stone. Because of its inclusions, the emerald is a fragile stone and very sensitive to knocks, it requires special attention. Due to this, it is recommended you don’t use steam or cleaning solutions and polish with a lint-free soft cloth.

Other Stones

Porous gemstones, including amber, turquoise, opals and pearls can be stained by oils or liquids, so it’s important to avoid contact with face creams, lotions and household chemicals. Wash porous gemstones in lukewarm water and polish with a lint-free soft cloth.
